Introduction to Outlast Health and Performance
Hey everyone, my name is Corey. Thank you for checking out Outlast Health and Performance. I wanted to introduce myself and the clinic to you.
I grew up in Sparrows Point, MD and I have played sports throughout my life (primarily soccer). I still play soccer in local leagues, but get the majority of my fitness training through group functional fitness classes and running. I met my wife, Shannon, in PT school at UMES. She has made me a better person for sure, and even a better physical therapist as we take many courses together and bounce ideas off of each other. We have a golden retriever named Oakley that has brightened our lives even more.
I have been practicing as a physical therapist since 2015 and years of experience in the corporate PT model pushed me towards private practice. I was fed up with the low value placed on patients and clinicians in that model. I have dedicated my learning and experience to best serve athletes and active people. I have even taken continuing education courses specific to treating CrossFit athletes, as this is a passion of mine.
I have always talked about running my own sports PT business, but it took a while to build up the courage to go through with it (plus student loans are no joke). The PT company I worked for inside of a CrossFit gym closed down in 2020 due to COVID-19. I was unemployed like many other Americans and decided it was time to take control of my own life. I decided to open up Outlast Health and Performance and use my down time to get everything in order. We actually opened up as Beyond Movement PT, but changed the name in June 2022.
I met Stan White and the other amazing coaches at Outsiders CrossFit and over a period of time we realized that this would be a great fit for my new venture. As I write this blog, the clinic space is being built in the corner of their facility. We will have our own private entrance from the perking lot and our own private treatment room, however Outlast Health and Performance will have a strong relationship with Outsiders as we blend physical therapy and fitness to achieve the best results for everyone that walks through our doors.
Outlast was built to bridge the gap between PT and fitness. Our goal is not to just get you out of pain. We want to get you out of pain, actually improve your health, get you back to the activities that you love, and teach you how to avoid re-injuring yourself. We operate as a cash-based physical therapy clinic (just meaning that we do not directly bill insurance companies) so that we can offer one-on-one care for 60 minutes. Insurances have been limiting quality care for years and the continually lowering reimbursement rates have caused many PT practices to double-book and/or schedule in 15-minute time slots. Depending on your insurance, you may recover a percentage of your fees as out-of-network benefits from your insurance. Our value is not dictated by a random insurance representative. Our value is giving you the one-on-one individualized care that you need to take back control of your life.

Looking forward to this journey!
